Joanna is a fully qualified dog groomer who lives in Billingham. Using her qualifications, skills and passion for dogs she decided to start her own fully-serviced dog grooming business and contacted Five Lamps Enterprise team for more advice.
Five Lamps, Business Advisor, Simon Coe worked with Joanna through the DWPs New Enterprise Allowance (NEA) contract. The support included help and support to write her business plan and make her self-employment plans a reality.
After Joanna’s hard work and dedication, she was able to open her dog grooming business in February 2019. Since opening, the business has been thriving. There are a number of new customers visiting the business each week and her exceptional service has meant customers have booked in for returning visits.

The New Enterprise Allowance is a DWP contract for people on Job Seekers Allowance, Employment Support Allowance or lone parent income support. DWP’s New Enterprise Allowance (NEA) scheme provides weekly payments of £65 per week for 13 weeks followed by £35 per week for 13 weeks when they commence trading.
