Five Lamps is celebrating after nominating Callum Murray for an award
Last night, Callum won the Young Microentrepreneur category at the Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards ceremony held in Manchester.
This award recognises the success of an outstanding young entrepreneur who has benefited from the support of a responsible finance provider. This category emphasizes youth, creativity and innovation: an individual with vision and passion.
Callum won the award due to his use of social media; butchery expertise and aspiration which have made in just over a year, a real success of his business Yarm Butchers. He was presented with a prize fund of £5,000.
Callum said:
“It’s a huge achievement for Yarm Butchers to win this award. The prize fund will help to support our plans for a delivery service, which we are hoping to start shortly. None of this would be possible without the support of my family, or the help and mentorship of Five Lamps, who supported me through the initial start-up phase of the business and who continue to provide advice. The shop would not be running if it wasn’t for our loyal customers continuing support”
Callum first approached Five Lamps in 2013 for help and advice to set up a butchers shop in Yarm. Despite his youth, Callum was an experienced Butcher and was looking to start up on his own. He knew it was a big step but had seen an opportunity in Yarm, as a long standing Butcher had recently closed and he had been the only one in the town.
Callum met with Ian Garforth and Deborah Shanley from the Five Lamps Enterprise team who gave him advice and guidance regarding market research, operational preparation and compilation of a business plan. Callum had other challenges like arranging the preparation of the premises, organising suppliers and marketing and staffing issues to arrange. He then applied for a Start-up Loan via Five Lamps which was approved.
He started trading as Yarm Butchers on Yarm High Street in March 2014 and has gone from strength to strength, winning Best Business in the prestigious and ultra-competitive Tees Valley Best New Business awards in February 2015 and now Young Microentrepreneur in the Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards.
Graeme Oram, Chief Executive of Five Lamps said
“It is great that Callum has been recognised as a Young Microentrepreneur. Five Lamps is proud to be part of Yarm Butchers story and helping turn Callum’s dream of self-employment into a reality. Every year, Five Lamps helps to establish hundreds of businesses by supporting customers on their enterprise journey from enterprise coaching, mentoring, business planning and accessing finance for start-ups”
