After achieving a BA (Hons) Degree in Film and Video, Kim Blair spent 4 years building a successful career in marketing
During her maternity leave new mum Kim thought about her work life balance and decided it was time for a change. Kim wanted to return to her creative roots and become a self-employed makeup artist.
Leaving the security of a well-paid job for the challenges and financial risks of running a business is always a big step but with the support of her husband, family and friends Kim decided to research the possibilities.
As a vocalist with local band Lennox Kim had heard about Five Lamps. After looking at our website Kim organised an appointment with Enterprise Coach, Carol Sanderson to develop her business idea. Kim also successfully completed the Five Lamps “We Mean Business” workshop programme.
To be taken seriously as a makeup artist Kim needed the prestigious BABTAC Pro-Makeup Artist Certificate, at a cost of £2,000 plus travel and accommodation. Unable to afford the fees Kim was introduced to Deborah Shanley, Five Lamps Start up Loan Fund Manager. Impressed with Kim’s business plan and commitment to her idea, Deborah submitted her business plan to the Start-Up Loan panel who agreed to fund Kim’s business idea.
Kim is now fully qualified and started trading as Kim Blair MUA on 4 November 2013. You can see Kim’s impressive portfolio at Kim Blair MUA – Make up Artist on Facebook.
